"Alberta's Spirit" This collection of watercolors represents the vibrant, diverse spirit of Alberta, capturing iconic moments and symbols that define the province’s unique identity. Unlike my blurred series, these pieces feature bold ink outlines to emphasize the clarity and energy of Alberta's essence, while the bright, vivid colors mirror the province’s lively character.
From cowgirls and cowboys to the Calgary Stampede, the Flight Museum, the Calgary Tower, and even a moose wandering into town, each piece tells a story rooted in Alberta’s culture, history, and daily life. One of my favorite subjects is the large elephant balloon from the early Stampede days, which symbolizes the whimsy and unexpected surprises that make this province so special. These moments, though varied in nature, all contribute to the rich tapestry of Alberta’s narrative. These watercolors were submitted to the Calgary Banner call for my application to create artwork for the city. My goal with this series was to capture the essence of Alberta in a way that felt both celebratory and grounded in its history. By blending modern vibrancy with traditional subjects, I aim to showcase the province’s spirit, from its western roots to the contemporary landmarks that continue to define it.
